1. More Channels
Although this one is pretty obvious I thought I would list it anyway. With regular cable packages you usually get less than 100 channels of programming. Even with Digital Cable you will only get around 200-300 without paying a fortune. With Satellite TV like Dish Network you can get hundreds upon hundreds of channels and pay the same amount as you would for basic cable.

2. Better Sports Programming
Cable Television often offers the basic sports channels ( ESPN, Comcast Sports Net, etc..) major cable providers like Comcast don’t have sports packages that even compare to DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket. DirecTV is renown for their amazing sports programming packages that cover everything from Basketball to Nascar. Dish Network also has a great lineup of sports channels and programming that has just about everything a sports buff could ever want.

3. More Variety
If you are the type of person that likes variety in their life… a little bit of this and that… then Satellite TV is for you. Satellite TV has all of the unique channels that cable may not have. DirecTV just added a unique Wellness Channel that covers natural living and healthy family lifestyles. Since you get more channels with satellite, you end up getting a wider variety of programming.

4. No Setup Fees
Most cable providers don’t seem to mention the large setup fee they charge you when sending out a technician. This fee can end up being well over $100. Dish Network and DirecTV have free installation and setup, so no more paying extra for stuff in the fine print.

5. Free DVR and Equipment.
Satellite Television companies often offer free upgrades as incentives to sign up such as free DVR equipment and free equipment. To get a DVR from the cable companies it can be expensive and add an additional cost to your monthly plan. Check out the current deals near the top right of the site to see what the satellite companies are giving away this month.

6. More Programming in HD
Most of the big cable companies currently offer between 10 and 20 channels in HD. Right now DirecTV offers 37 channels in HD and they will have 100 channels in high definition by the years end. If you have an HD television or are thinking about upgrading to HDTV, satellite is the way to go.

7. Sirius Satellite Radio on Dish Network
Listen to the best of Sirius Satellite Radio when you subscribe to Dish Network. Sirius currently has a whole lineup of channels on Dish dedicated to playing the best music 24/7 365 days a year.

8. Family Friendly Packages
Cable companies offer basic, and digital packages however satellite services like Dish Network and DirecTV are the first to offer packages designed just for your family. Your whole family should be able to enjoy television and these packages ensure that your children are watching content that isn’t just appropriate, but educational as well.

9. Programming en Espanol
If you are looking for lots of programming in Spanish, then Satellite is for you. Currently Dish Network offers Dish Latino, a whole package full of channels in Spanish. DirecTV offers comparable programming with more than 30 unique channels in Spanish.

10. More For Less
I could make a list of 20 more reasons why satellite is superior to cable however it really just comes down to more for less. You get more features, more sports, more HD, more everything for less money every month, and if you think about it..thats really the best reason of all.

If that is the case, it is time to look into Dish Network. The satellite company just added Turbo HD packages to their choices, and they have more HD than ever before. Now, subscribers can get the HD package that is perfectly tailored to their viewing needs.

Turbo HD Bronze

The first package that Dish Network offers is the 100% HD Turbo HD Bronze. The package has over forty channels of HD programming for $24.99 a month. The package includes some of the most popular channels, such as ESPN HD so you can watch all of your sporting events the way they were meant to be viewed, in high definition.

This package includes everything that the Bronze and Silver packages offer, and also has Encore HD, which is a commercial free movie channel along with other channels that are not available with the other packages.

Platinum HD

If those packages are still not enough, put down an extra $10 a month and get even more with your package. Platinum HD can be added to any of the above packages, and you can get more sports and more movies when you add this feature.

Local Channels

Allsat approves just about everyone to get Satellite TV through Dish Network. I recommend trying to order Dish Network through Allsat, they are a reputable Satellite TV dealer and should get you approved.

Signing up for Satellite TV service goes smoothly for most people, however one thing that isn’t really mentioned alot is that you need to pass a credit check in order to get Dish Network and DirecTV. Now this credit check is very easy to pass (its not like trying to get a mortgage or car loan) however for those of you who may have bad credit or no credit there is an alternative.

Dish Network currently offers a way to prepay for satellite service. With Dish Network Pre-Paid you don’t have to sign a contract and you dont receive a monthly bill. This also eliminates having to give them a credit card or social security number when you sign up, which you generally have to do if you sign a contract. You simply pay for the service in advance by purchasing a pre-paid card at radio shack or your local electronics store. You then activate the pre-paid card over the phone.

There are a variety of packages available with Dish Pre-Paid including:

DishFAMILY
America’s Top 100
America’s Top 200
America’s Top 250
DishLATINO
DishLATINO Plus
DishLATINO Dos
DishLATINO Max

You can also get premium movie packages such as HBO, Cinemax, Shoetime and Starz.

Dish Network Pre-paid is also great if you have a second home or vacation home that you only spend a few months a year at. This way you just pay for the time you will use, instead of paying monthly since you may not be there for most of the year.

There are a few catches with Dish Network prepaid. First you need to make sure you have hardware that will work with the pre-paid service. You can purchase the hardware required at Radio Shack as well. Secondly, when you factor in the cost of the hardware the service is more expensive than signing a contract, however for those who can’t get the service through a contract this is a pretty good alternative.

If all else fails you can always try to repair your credit and re-apply in a few months.

If you’re in the market for satellite television, there are two main players that you are probably looking at: DirecTV, and Dish Network. Both are completely viable, well-thought-out solutions that deliver the product that they promise. Both offer competitive home television solutions, good picture quality, and good customer support. In essence, both are services that are deserving of your consideration (and money).

However, we are blessed with a free market economy, where one product will always trump the other one. Superiority of design, engineering prowess, and the actual company behind it generally outdo the competition, and it is by this formula that many products have come and gone from the market. This is the very concept that has shaped our economy, and by now you’re probably wondering why this is relevant.

We’ve prepared a bit of a death match between the two main satellite providers in America – DirecTV and Dish Network – and have begrudgingly set them at each other in an epic battle to the end. Who will remain? Keep reading.

DirecTV – Features, Benefits, and General Information
DirecTV is a name that is synonymous with satellite television. When satellite television service was in its infancy, DirecTV was there. As the service expanded and grew, DirecTV was there. And, as the industry transformed into a complete multimedia solution, DirecTV was there. You could say that DirecTV is in it for the long haul.

DirecTV has gained a good reputation for being a quality satellite provider that offers value, customized packages, and ease of use for the customer. One of the main attractions to DirecTV is the fact that it is seemingly plug and play- once the technicians leave your home, your TV just works. There are no games to play, no hassles to experience, no hoops to jump through- just a working television set (err, up to four of them actually).

DirecTV’s lowest package (the Family package) runs $29.99 a month for 40 channels. At this price, which is pretty low considering the quality of the audio/video and the fact that the channels included are good channels, the customer is also given the option of having up to four receivers installed for free- how’s that for value?

Of course, there are packages that soar right through the entire pricing spectrum: $29.99 a month (Family), $49.99 a month (Choice), $54.99 a month (Choice Xtra), $59.99 a month (Plus DVR), $64.99 a month (Choice Xtra HD), and $69.99 a month (Plus DVR HD). The base package (the Family package) includes 40 channels, whereas the top end Plus DVR HD package includes 195 channels, HD content, local channels, as well as 68 XM Satellite radio channels. That’s a whole lot of TV.

Dish Network – Features, Benefits, and General Information
Dish Network is not as well known as DirecTV, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t making a big splash in the market. In fact, since Dish Network launched a few years ago, customers have been flocking to the service, credit cards in hand, literally begging Dish to take their money. Why?

Dish Network has everything going for them: high-quality broadcasting, capable hardware, desirable packages, great rates, and plenty of customization. Their HD DVR units are second to none, offering the whole experience and enough technical features that they blend in perfectly to any home theater setup.

While the hardware is probably the best on the market, what really makes a good television provider is the content that it is able to deliver. On that note, Dish Network really shines. Their packages range in price, starting at just $19.99 a month for 40 channels and reaching as high as $94.99 a month for 280 channels and, of course, packages and pricing everywhere in-between.

Direct Comparison – Who’s Better than Who?
Pitting DirecTV against Dish Network was a difficult task, as it was hard for our testers to focus on the task at hand. Both providers have excellent services, and on that level we are able to say that we liked them both. However, in the interest of Darwinian science we’re going to find just one contender that does the job better than the other.

That contender is Dish Network, and here’s why: throughout the duration of our testing we couldn’t help but feel more at home with the software provided by the Dish Network. It flowed better, looked better, and was a lot faster too. Scrolling through various options menu’s was simple and easy to accomplish, and though that could be done on DirecTV as well, we found it easier and faster on Dish Network.

The Dish Network HD DVR is the best around right now, and though DirecTV’s incarnation is a very good example of what a HD DVR should be, the one offered by Dish Network is just a teeny bit better.

Fast forward about 50 years and you have services that provide hundreds of channels and thousands of on Demand movies and TV shows that can be played any time. One of the most popular satellite TV services currently out there is DirecTV. While traditional cable still exists, many would argue that it has been surpassed far and wide by the superior programming and service of satellite TV services, especially when it comes to price. Satellite television, along with being available anywhere that the satellite has a line of sight (read: anywhere in America and even parts of southern Canada), is able to offer incredible programming quality, audio/visual quality, and high definition content without the need to upgrade the service or change providers.

Pros
1. Flexible and Affordable Programming Packages
DirecTV is currently the leader in America for satellite TV service. As you can see below, DirecTV offers a wide variety of packages which you will generally find to be cheaper then cable and competitive with Dish Network.

DirecTV has taken a very proactive approach to the American market and has offered an assortment of packages that are designed to fill every niche and suit every budget. Whether you are prepared to spend $30 a month or $300 a month, DirecTV has given you the ability to customize each individual package which is a huge advantage over cable programming./font>

* The Family Package: $29.99 a month
This package offers the best of both worlds: 40 channels, and a low monthly price. This package also includes up to 4 receivers installed for free, allowing you to have satellite television all over the house if you wish. Much of the content is geared towards families- channels like Disney, Discovery Kids, Toon Disney, Nickelodeon, and National Geographic allow for great all-ages entertainment. Of course, you’ll find your favorites and local channels too!

* The Choice Package: $49.99 a month
If you’re looking to ramp up your television, this is a giant leap from the Family Package! This package includes up to 4 standard receivers installed free, as well as 140 channels, including many long-time favorite and premium channels. This package also includes tons of XM satellite radio channels, so if you love streaming music you will love the 100% digital quality satellite radio offered by XM. High-definition users will also be delighted to know that they can add high-definition programming to this package for only $9.99 a month.

* The Choice Xtra Package: $54.99 a month
For a $5 premium over the Choice package, the Choice Xtra package has 185 channels (40 more than the Choice package), including channels that are hard to find (Biography, the Gold Channel, Nicktoons, etc.). The Choice Xtra package includes all of the features of the Choice package, including 68 XM satellite radio channels and the ability to add HD programming for $9.99 a month.

* The Plus DVR Package – $59.99 a month – 185 channels (including local channels) for you to view and enjoy. This package includes all of the features of the Choice Xtra package, including XM radio channels and the ability to order HD programming for $9.99 a month. However, this package includes a DVR unit that you can use to pause, rewind, and record live TV. If you have never experienced DVR before you honestly don’t know what you’re missing.

* The Choice Xtra + HD Access: $64.98 a month:
As the name implies, this package is 195 channels of viewing goodness, including XM satellite radio and numerous premium channels. However, it also includes HD channels that are broadcast via the satellite and decoded via the bundled HD receiver.

* Plus HD DVR – $69.99 a month:
195 channels, HD broadcasts, and the ability to stop, rewind, pause, and record live TV. This package is the ultimate for HD viewing- accept no compromises or limitations. The price of $69.99 a month includes everything that you could ever want, including local channels, as well as a great promotional price on a HD DVR. If you want the best of the best, this is the package for you.

2. DVR Scheduling
DirecTV also offers many additional service such as the ability to record your favorite shows and movies, stop, pause, and rewind live TV with a DVR. Our favorite feature when using the service was the online DVR scheduling, which is a new service that allows you to access your DVR at home through the DirecTV website and schedule it to automatically record shows and movies, right from your computer.

3. Great Customer Support
At the end of the day, customer support can either make or break a company. You can have a great product or service but if you don’t have good customer support that product or service can be worth nothing. One thing that really impressed us about DirecTV was the customer support. From the moment we called to sign up and schedule an installation date we felt like we were taken care of.

Our installation technician arrived on time and had us up and running with the service in under an hour, and once the service was installed we have had no major problems to report. We did have a minor glitch with our receiver a few days in, but we called customer support and throughout the duration of the call everyone we spoke to was very helpful and polite. DirecTV definitely gets two thumbs way up when it comes to customer support.

4. Picture Quality
Another thing that really shocked us about DirecTV was how good the picture quality was. Considering that your TV signal comes from space, you would think DirecTV would be unable to match the picture quality of Cable or FIOS. However DirecTV actually broadcasts over 130 channels and hundreds of on demand movies in full 1080P. I really wouldn’t be surprised if they offer more channels in HD currently than any Cable company out there.

5. The Best Sports Programming Around (NFL Sunday Ticket).
Although we have found that Dish Network is generally a bit cheaper when you compare packages side by side, if you are into sports we highly recommend that you go for DirecTV. DirecTV has NFL Sunday Ticket exclusively, meaning its not available through any other TV service provider. NFL Sunday Ticket gives you a front row seat to over 200 NFL games (many of which are broadcast in full HD) throughout the 2009 – 2010 football season. You can also watch games streaming online through the DirecTV website.

Cons
1. Pricing
The only real con we came up with during our complete review of the DirecTV service was the price. When compared to cable TV services DirecTV ends up being much cheaper most of the time. The only gripe we have is that when you compare some of the lower end DirecTV plans to Dish Network (the other big Satellite TV company) Dish Network’s plans are a few dollars cheaper a month. Although this isn’t a deal breaker we would like to see DirecTV bring their prices down just a tad. If your into sports programming we still recommend going with DirecTV over Dish.
Conclusion

Overall we found DirecTV to be everything it promised and more. Our installation went very smoothly and we were up and running just a few days after ordering. We got hundreds of channels, many of which are in HD and after doing the math, we would’ve ended up saving hundreds of dollars a year compared to some of the cable TV services out there.

Is DirecTV better than Dish Network? The simple answer is that for those of you who are really into sports programming, Yes. If you are more into family oriented programming, or some of the lower end packages we would probably recommend looking into Dish Network because their service offers the same content for a few dollars a month less, which can end up being $50 – $100 in savings a year.

Many people have found that satellite television is the right kind of service for their home needs. It’s not uncommon for bars and hotels to have satellite TV’s playing the days sports games, as satellite TV subscribers have access to some of the best sports programming available.

If you are looking at getting Satellite TV you’ve probably heard of Dish Network. If you are in the continental United States you have two options when it comes to Satellite TV providers – Dish Network and DirecTV. We decided to sign up for Dish Network and see if the service to lives up to what it promises. Below are the Pros and Cons of our Dish Network experience.
Pros
1. Affordable Pricing
With pricing starting at under $30, Dish Network is clearly one of the most affordable tv providers out there. Their typical program is $29.99 a month, and it includes 100 of America’s top channels as well as 30 HD channels. If you’ve got a high definition TV they have a 100% HD programming package called Turbo HD that starts at $24.99 a month. Basic cable (if you are even in cables access area) is $20 a month in itself, and that’s for fewer than 30 channels. Overall we were impressed by the programming package price points.

2. Great Hardware
We love the idea of being able to incorporate a DVR to our home theater setup. In fact, if you are with Dish Network, you can obtain a DVR for a surprisingly low cost ($200 by itself, or free on an 18-month contract). The DVR that comes with the contractual commitment is capable of storing over 100 hours of television programming, sending an audio/video signal to more than one television, and can actually act on two separate TV’s.

Upgraded DVR options allow for HD recording, HD playback, larger hard drives (for more television storage), and more overall functionality. We have yet to see another major competitor come along and match the effectiveness of Dish Network’s DVR solutions.

3. Turbo HD is Great
The base package offered by Dish Network offers 30 high definition channels, and the expanded packages offer as much as 34. Keep in mind that these high definition channels are not including the high definition pay-per-view channels where you can rent high definition movies.

With the latest LCD and plasma TV’s offering unreal image quality, having to restrict your high definition enjoyment to Blu-Ray or HDVD movies is unreasonable. There is no other network that can compete with the high-definition content available from Dish Network.

4. Solid Package Selection
I really liked the flexibility that Dish Network gave me when choosing a programming package. Although at first I thought they may have had a few too many packages to choose from, I realized that there really is a package for everyone.

*Dish Family Package: $19.99 a month

Dish Network provides 40 channels, including popular sports, movie, and news channels, for $19.99 a month. Users can also opt to include specialized or local channels for a small monthly premium.

*America’s Top 100: $32.99 a month
Over 100 channels are included for $29.99 a month, including the Disney channel and the Discovery Channel. As well, America’s Top 100 offers 30 high definition channels for you to enjoy on your high definition television.

*America’s Top 200: $44.99 a month
Just as the name implies, America’s Top 200 includes 200 of the top channels in America. You’ll find a huge selection of premium channels, movies, specialty channels, and commercial-free music channels. Pricing is $47.99 a month with local channels.

*America’s Top 250: $54.99 a month

Over 250 channels, including premium services like the Speed Channel and the Golf Channel, high-quality streaming music, and all of your favorites. This package, along with local channels and high definition content, is $57.99 a month.

*America’s Everything Pak: $94.98 a month
This package features over 280 channels, including 31 movie channels offered by Showtime. This package has everything that’s worth watching, including local channels, and is $94.99 a month.

Cons
1. Sports Packages
If you are an avid sports fan then you may be a bit dissapointed with Dish Networks current sports packages. Although they have some solid packages, they lack NFL Sunday Ticket which is HUGE on DirecTV. I wouldn’t necessarily call this a deal breaker with most sports fans, but if you are a die hard NFL football fan you may want to look at DirecTV.

2. No Online DVR Scheduling
DirecTV just added a really cool feature that allows you to schedule your DVR to record shows right from your computer. This means that if your at work and remember that there is a show you want to record you can just go on your computer, set your DVR, and when you get home the program will be recorded. Although this isn’t a necessity, its definitely something we want to see Dish Network add in the near future.
Conclusion

Finding a satellite solution that adequately meets your needs is never an easy task. Overall we were impressed with Dish Networks variety of programming packages and reasonable prices. Dish Network has the best programming out there for families and HDTV buffs and should have enough to satisfy just about everyone even though they do lack some sports programming like NFL Sunday Ticket.

When people are looking to sign up for Satellite TV, they may notice that there are always a ton of different stores and dealers to sign up and get it at. All of these different dealers say they offer the “Best Deals” and often try to offer free satellite equipment or even a few months of free service as an incentive to sign up with them. What many people don’t know is that there are only a few “trusted” satellite television dealers, and they could be getting into a predicament by going with the wrong one.

Allsat is one of the original Dish Network dealers and has been around since Dish Network was formed in the mid 1990’s. This has made them one of the most trusted satellite dealers. Personally, I have had a lot of good experiences with Allsat and have recommended a lot of friends to them. Since I am always referring to them in posts as the place to sign up for Satellite, I thought I would do a complete review of them and show you why I trust their service and refer people to them.

To me, probably the most important aspect of a company is the way they treat their customers. Customer support is very important with any service, and satellite tv just happens to be a service. I have gone through a lot of different satellite dealers, and in my experience AllSat clearly has the best customer service. Every time I have had a question or problem it has been answered and fixed quicker than I have expected. They make the process of signing up for satellite extremely easy which brings me to my next point..Easy of Use.

AllSat offers a great tool on their website called the Dish Designer. This tool lets you design the Dish Network satellite system and service that is right for you. Some of you may be new to satellite television and unfamiliar with some of the terminology on most sites. With the Dish Designer it eliminates the hassle of having to know certain terms and names of specific pieces of hardware. It makes it so anyone and their mom can sign up for Satellite and it provides a fast, and user friendly experience.

AllSat also offers a wide variety of legitimate promotions that you can get free programming and equipment from. I believe the latest promotion they are offering is 100 Digital Channels, a Free DVR (Digital Video Recorder) and HD DVR Upgrade and Free Installation for just $30 a month. With this deal they also give you Dish HD free for 6 months and HBO and Cinemax Free for 3 months. Sure beats Cable !

The final point I really want to make is that AllSat provides everything you need in one place. You can use their Dish Designer to find the perfect system for you, Ask questions through their great customer support, and even compare satellite providers. They also offer High-Speed Internet packages through satellite that you can sign up for on their website as well. I will continue to recommend AllSat as my number 1 pick for Dish Network Dealers, and if you are looking to get Dish Network I highly recommend going through them.

When satellite television (or sat TV) first made its debut in the early 90s, satellite dishes were large and expensive metal items that took up space. Today, satellite dishes are compact and easily fit on rooftops. One of the greatest things about sat TV is how it is opening up television choice to everyone around the world. It is popular and most of all – it is affordable. Satellite TV companies are enticing more viewers every day with new movies, sports and world news and the pledge to produce a movie-quality picture and sound. Satelite TV presents many solutions to the growing problems that cable TV has been facing. Even though satellite TV technology is constantly developing, many people have already chosen it as their preferred television choice. Whatever your needs, Satellite TV has a solution for you.

In this article, we’ll find out how sat TV works, from TV station to TV set. We’ll also learn about the changing landscape of TV viewing and some basic differences that distinguish satelite TV from cable and over-the-air broadcast TV.

What Are Satellite Television Systems?
Satellite Television never ceases to impress: the channels are infinite and the independence is an added bonus. Conceptually, satelite TV has many similar components to broadcast TV; it’s a wireless system that delivers television programming directly to your home. Both broadcast television and satellite television systems transmit programming via radio signals. Broadcast stations use a powerful antenna to transmit radio waves to the surrounding area. The main limitation of broadcast TV is range. Radio signals used to broadcast television are discharged from the broadcast antenna in a straight line. In order to receive these signals, you have to be in the direct line of sight of the antenna. This is a bit of problem since the Earth is round making it impossible for you to have a straight line, causing broadcast signals to be distorted. In order to get a perfect picture through cable you need to be in a pretty close proximity to the antenna. With sat TV, the process becomes much simpler.

Problem Solving with Satellite Antenna
Satellite Television offer a solution to the problems of range by transmitting broadcast signals from satellites antennas circumnavigating the Earth. Since satellites are high in the sky, there are a lot more patrons in its line of sight. Satellite TV systems transmit and receive radio signals using specialized satellite antennas called satellite dishes.

Satellite TV is a huge improvement over all types of Cable TV including digital. Much has been written about the difference between Satellite TV and Cable. Digital signals picked up through the “Ku” band are an MPEG-2 compressed video signal, which allows far more channels to be squeezed through without damaging clarity. At the core, this is all there is to satellite dishes. Satellite dishes are also very easy to self-install and if you’re considering installing this dish on your own you should read how to install your satellite dish.

Simply Sat TV
Most satellite consumers get their programming directly from a satellite TV Company, such as DirecTV or DISH Network. The satellite TV Company creates program packages and broadcasts them to subscribers. Basically, the provider’s goal is to bring hundreds of channels to your TV.

Simply put satellite Television is just another way of delivering multi-channel television and an incredible way to enjoy your viewing experience.
